THE first ever winner of the Merseyside Independent Business of the Year is undergoing a major business expansion.

Five years after the first MIB Awards, Lunya, based in Liverpool ONE is moving from its current location to the corner of College Lane and Hanover street, opposite BBC Radio Merseyside.

The Lunya team won the first MIB Award of the Year back in 2013

The expansion of the family-owned Catalunyan restaurant bar and deli will see 10 new jobs created, taking the workforce to 55.

Owners Elaine and Peter Kinsella are investing £150k into the business. Elaine said: “Although we and our customers love our existing site in Liverpool ONE, an opportunity arose with a new location offering all the extra space and facilities that was just too good to miss.  We’re confident all of our many loyal customers will love it.”

Donna Howitt, Marketing Director at Liverpool ONE, added: “Lunya is a great success story and we are delighted to be accommodating their growth.

“We have worked very closely with Peter and his team over the years, always being focused on ensuring they thrive.  It is very satisfying to see the business outgrowing its current home and expanding into another great location within Liverpool ONE.”

Lunya won their coveted MIB Awards in 2013, when the first Merseyside Independent Business Awards was held at The Black E in Liverpool City Centre.
